Media Ethics Assignmet

Ray Rice knocks out his fiancĂ© in elevator

I think that the whole Ray Rice fiasco that unfolded after the release of the video evidence was an example of privacy invasion. It had already been a number of months in which the public knew about the situation and Ray Rice was already being punished for his actions. I think that by TMZ releasing the video footage, they just created a huge mess that escalated for Ray Rice and ignored the respect of his privacy on the incident.

This website article discuses examples of what happens to those who are involved working for the media in Mexico. Those who try and uncover detailed information regarding certain stories that are not supposed to be presented to the public are instantly killed such as Mexican reporter Eliseo Barron Hernandez. He was the second reporter who was murdered in Mexico, while even trying to represent the government and use subtitle, cautious measures used while reporting.

This article discusses the factors of the government in Mexico, having total control over the media, such as television stations that broadcast elections and news events live. It seems that the Mexican government has the higher authority of how things are perceived on televisions in Mexico. The article states that in Mexico almost seventy percent of citizens have televisions on their homes, but do not have refrigerators. This is a prime example of how controlling the government can be and how the advertised media can not only influence but fear the public of Mexico, by what they are saying.

This scholarly article talks about factors that occurred in both the United States and in Mexico regarding factors about the Mexican government being hidden from both Americans and Mexicans either living in Mexico or in the United States. There are a few examples about how elections are done in Mexico. You can read and begin to understand and question of whether someone who runs for a political position in Mexico will be received and accepted by force or by choice.

Advertising & Propaganda

Cult of Personality
When any so-called iconic figure is trying to do something that has never been done before, they use their image to the full extent to become well known and favored everywhere. With President Obama's first election, he became the countries first African American president. Before his campaign, he led a competitive and inspiring election that allured majority of the country into believing in him and wanting to make change by electing him. In doing so he used advertisements, mostly his posters such as this one that consisted of his face with the word "HOPE" written on the add to inflict that anything is achievable if he was the be elected as president.

Bandwagon
Bandwagon is used to persuade large groups of the public into believing and following a individual or group that will present themselves as the best. During President Obama's first campaign he was able to persuade majority of the citizens in America that he would offer the unthinking and change the unchangeable, giving people all the reason to jump on his bandwagon.

Black and White

In life we are forced to make decisions that will either be beneficial to us, or decisions that are absolutely wrong and not beneficial. In the campaign that is often advertised on various television channels, being "Above the Influence" represents the black and white fallacy that we can either be strong avoid what is wrong or be weak and falter into doing what is wrong, in this case drugs.

Dictate
By reading the advertised slogan, you can stop and think of all the times your forced to make a decision with no guidance that you either thought was wrong or right. The slogan simply tells you, if you know something is bad, just don’t do it, or follow who ever is doing it. Be strong and prevent yourself from falling victim to things that are not worth it.

Rearch Paper Proposed Topics

Who is running the media in Mexico ? The government or the Cartel.

It seems that every time you read something in newspapers or online about Mexico, it is regarding corruption in with the government or more disaster linked with the cartel. There will always be the question that most people already know the answer too about life in Mexico. Who is truly running the country, the Mexican government or the drug cartel? Someone can easily run a quick search online and find information regarding the corruption in Mexico. This leads me to wonder, that if the government is not truly running the government, and if the cartel is, then what messages are truly being displayed through the media in Mexico.

How much longer will hard copy books be sold?

Living in Silicon Valley, just minutes away from majority of the big name tech companies along with the leaders in social media, it is easy to notice the rapid evolution of technology. Nearly everything is switched over to electronic devices such as tablets, smart phones and different variations of laptops. With that being said, it is also easy to notice that most people are going paperless for pretty much everything, including books for either education or leisure. The important question dwindles in my mind of whether or not hard copy books will continue to last as everything is pretty much electronic now days.

Movies

My favorite movie that I saw in either 2013 or 2014 would have to be “The Fault in our Stars” which was directed by Josh Boone and was based off of the novel, by John Green. The first time I saw the movie was at Century Theatres at Oakridge shopping mall. I loved this movie so much because it was one of the few movies that are based off a book, which stays true to the actual books storyline. The message in the movie touches my heart and shows me how important it is to make the best out of life, while being grateful for what I have.

My all time favorite movie would have to be “The Nightmare Before Christmas” directed by Tim Burton. This movie has been my all time favorite movie, because I have always loved the unique characters, the unforgettable songs, and of course the story. To this day, I still continue to watch this movie when ever it is on, while following along with lines that I have memorized.

Books & influence

Growing up, there have been many tings have had an influence on my life. Reading has been a huge influence because, authors include life lessons and personal messages, that I interpret and use to live a stronger and more enjoyable life.
·      “The Fault in Our Stars”- John Green – When I first read this book, I was influenced to appreciate life. While reading, I became emotionally connected to book, seeing how devastating life can be for others. Reading this book, allowed me to appreciate life in general and also realize that life is short and a gift that should not be wasted.
·       “A Child Called It” – Dave Pelzar – Reading this book, opened my eyes to not be selfish. The influence this book had on my life was to be grateful for what I have rather than what I want.

·      “Still Breathin” – Brenden M Dilley – In life I have always been stubborn because I have a tendency to always have to be right. This book has influenced me because it has allowed me to take a step back listen to others, instead of being stubborn. It has also helped me with advice and guidance in my life.

Media Autobiography

Communication is a connection that we use to deliver messages, which allow us to better understand culture, language, art, technology and entertainment. These forms of communications are what inspire and create types of media that are displayed today. I have always been exposed to different media types, but I found that I enjoy books, newspapers, Internet and audio the most. I have always had a passion for reading. Books are an older form of media, which I believe deliver strong messages to readers, although in today’s generation; books are not as popular. Every night before I go to bed, I find myself reading all types of newspaper articles on the Internet. When reading these articles, I become aware of national and local news and my personal favorite; celebrity news. While reading an article, sometimes I easily become side tracked and start researching of topic, about someone or something, I have just discovered in the article. I can easily notice how books, newspapers and the Internet are connected and used in today’s media. Another type of media, I have developed a relationship with early in my life is audio. Music has always acted as a form of relaxation, both mentally and physically. I was originally introduced to music from my dad, and throughout my life I have become interested in different types of music. I have noticed that the type of music I am listening too, describes my mood. For the most part, I like any type of music; as long as I can understand and relate to the message, the artist is delivering through their lyrics. Wile I was growing up, television was never important in my life. Internet and reading has always caught my attention rather than watching reality shows or movies. Nothing frustrates me more than when a film is based off a book and the film completely alters the story line. I can’t stand it when Hollywood ruins a great book! The only movie that was based off a book that I will make an exception for is “The Fault in our Stars”. Currently at De Anza College I am pursuing an Associates degree in Child Development, in hopes to pursue a career as a pre-school teacher. Pre-schools and daycare advertisements are easily found all over the city, on billboards, busses and street corners. With every school trying to become advertised to the public, media is very important for my career path. Media is influential and personally is a way of learning.
